Crucial moral battles are being fought in our culture. The average young person experiences many pressures in the formation of personal sexual standards and behavior.

The fact that some standards must be chosen cannot be ignored. Sex is here to stay, and it remains a very basic force in our lives. We cannot ignore its presence nay more than we can ignore other ordinary human drives.

Each of us needs to think through the implications of sexual alternatives and choose a personal sexual ethic based on intellectual and Biblical factors, not merely biological, emotional, or social ones.

The biblical standard that puts sex within the fidelity and security of marriage is the most responsible code that has ever been developed. You are justified in following it without apology as the best standard for protecting human, moral, and Christian values that has been devised.

Some reading this may have already had sexual experience outside of marriage. The data we have discussed is not intended to condemn or produce guilt.

The good news is that Jesus Christ came for the expressed purpose of forgiving our sins, sexual and all other. Jesus, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, will forgive us. The real question now is, what shall we do with the future? Christ can cleanse the past, but He expects us to respond to the light He gives us. Hopefully this discussion will help you strengthen your convictions with regard to sexual decisions and behavior in the days ahead. As the adage says, today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Abstinence simply means to voluntarily refrain from all sexual relationships before marriage, in order to uplift your own self-worth and provide the freedom to build character, develop career potentials and practice true love, or, more simply put, saving sex until marriage.

"It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality (fornication)�" I Thessalonians 4:3

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship." Romans 12:1, 2

"Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissention and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 13:13, 14

"Do not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, a idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat." I Corinthians 5:11

"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own. You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." I Corinthians 6: 18, 19, 20

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider other better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Philippians 2:3, 4

"Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against the soul." I Peter 2:11

"But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars - their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." Revelation 21:8

Let's take the decision to abstain from any sexual relationships until the commitment of marriage and remain committed to the blessed relationships that God has designed and gifted to us. Abstinence is the sure choice for a life of freedom and true love.
